Trade unions and organisations marked the May Day labour holiday on Monday with marches and rallies held in cities around Greece, in which they stressed the need to fight for and defend fundamental labour rights rolled back under memorandum policies.

Diversifying the tourism product, promoting alternative forms of tourism, innovative services, fresh destinations and new routes through strong synergies is the priority for Greece, Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura said during the opening on Thursday, of the 1st International Western Silk Road Workshop held in Alexandroupolis, northeastern Greece.

Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis invited community groups, academics, police authorities and experts to a meeting at city hall on Wednesday, in order to discuss ways to tackle increasing inner-city crime.

"There are great social problems that need to be solved step by step, but for the first time we are facing the exit of the seven-year crisis", government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos on Friday said in an interview to Kokkino radio station.
