Talks over FYROM name begin today in NY

The talks on the name of FYROM are officially starting today, with UN special mediator Matthew Nimetz meeting with the negotiators of Athens and Skopje, ambassadors Adamantios Vassilakis and Vasko Naumovski in New York.

February 9th declared International Greek Language Day in Australia

The General Consulate of Greece in Melbourne announced today that “following the Joint Decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs, of the Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs and of the Minister of Foreign Affairs No.17889 (Official Gazette B’ 1384 from 24.04.2017), the 9th of February, also known as Dionysios Solomos (8 April 1798 – 9 February 1857) Commemoration Day has been declared as International Greek Language Day”.

Top seismologist: More earthquakes expected

The President of the Earthquake Planning & Protection Organisation, Efthymios Lekkas told radio “Athina984FM” that he estimated more tremors would follow after the 4.4R magnitude quake that rocked Athens, late Monday night. “I believe that the activity (seismic) will continue given the fact that there are small faults in the region”, he said.

Erdogan vows to “drown” US-backed Syrian Border Force

The Turkish president has called US-backed Syrian Border Force using Kurdish fighters a “terrorist army,” vowing to “drown” it before it’s complete. He also added that military preparations against Kurdish-held Afrin are ready.
“Our duty is to drown this terrorist force before it is born,” the Turkish leader said on Monday, as cited by AP.
