Athens achieved a big international distinction as the Leading Culture Destination Awards organisation declared the Greek capital Best Emerging Culture City of the Year 2017.
Athens mayor Giorgos Kaminis received the award at an event held on Friday in London
"The artists of Athens, its cultural infrastructures, the dialogue with the cultural community and its spectacular dynamic this year in tourism showed us that we are on the right course" Kaminis said to Athens Macedonian News Agency.
The Leading Culture Destinations Awards was established in 2014 and since then the committee has awarded museums, architects, exhibitions and cities throughout the world as the Modern Art Museum in New York, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao while Venice, Oslo, Los Angeles, and Quebec have received the best emerging culture city award.
