Sixteeen people drowned off the coast of the Greek island of Lesvos, on the morning of Monday, when a refugee boat sank under unclear circumstances.
Two refugees, that had applied for asylum in Greece two months ago and their request was still pending, stole a boat and attempted to escape from Chios and return to Turkey.
A total of four refugees have died in hotspots in the eastern islands of the Aegean Sea over the past week due to lack of proper infrastructures and poor living conditions.
