Greek Poetry in the West Village

On a cold crisp night, I headed downtown to the quaint Cornelia café in the West Village to warm up with the readings of a compilation of poems written about Greece by Greeks, Greek–Americans and Philhellenes. This poetry reading event has been going on for the past few years. It was organized by The Greek -American Writers Association, and hosted by the known poet, Penelope Karageorge.

The talented Greek-French international pop star, George Perris, gave a sensational performance at his debut in New York at the Allen Room, located in Jazz at Lincoln Center on January 22nd 2014 . The room was filled with fans and music professionals who were eager to hear this captivating Greek-French artist, who's style reminds you of a Mediterranean version of Michael Bublé. George Perris was presenting his new album "Picture This" with a breathtaking view of Manhattan behind him.

Although many educated Europeans carried with them the love for the Ancient Greek language and culture upon settling in the New World, not much was known about the Greek culture as a whole.
