Mykonos municipality apparent negligence after child's death

There are numerous complaints about the operation of the water sports business on the beach of Kalo Livadi in Mykonos, where a 10-year-old boy was killed on Monday.

As broadcaster on ANT1 reported, the business was operating since the end of May without a license for one and half months. Mayor Irene Grypari stated that the Municipality gave a new license on July 15th, without paying municipal taxes.

It took two days after the tragedy of the 10-year-old boy's death at Kalo Livadi beach for the mayor of the island to finally decide for the council to convene and discuss, examine and terminate the contract signed by the owner of the water sports company with the municipality.

The mayor of the island, Irene Grypari, appeard on television and was unable to give any explanation nor whether safety checks are conducted on companies doing business under the municipality, such as the water sports company in Kalo Livadi. Furthermore, the mayor could not even confirm if the municipality dues have been paid by the company.
