Police officer dies after 8 years on coma!

Stathis Lazaridis, the Police officer who was shot in a shoot out with cannabis growers in Zoniana village in November 2007, died on Sunday, after 8 years in the hospital.
Stathis was shot in an ambush in Zoniana, when 12 Police cars were fired upon as they were entering the village.
Stathis Lazaridis was in coma all these years. In the last few days, his health condition deteriorated, and succumbed.
His daughter is now 8 years old.
THE AMBUSH OF ZONIANA (November 5, 2007)
A convoy with police officers was on its way to the village to search for drugs in drug dealers’ homes when it received a barrage of fire by gunmen.
Three days before, a 24 year old man was arrested in Rethymno, while his cousin managed to escape.
Both men had in their possession a substantial quantity of hashish and cocaine.
Heraklion Police asked for aid from the police in Rethymno in order to search the homes of the arrested man and his cousin.
A police convoy of 12 vehicles with over 40 policemen set off for Zoniana, where about 500 metres out of the village they received a barrage of fire, from Kalashnikov assault rifles by gunmen, who injured three policemen, among them… Stathis Lazaridis.
