Refugees problem concerns all EU states, say PM Tsipras and Italian parliament president Boldrini

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and visiting Italian parliament president Laura Boldrini both on Friday sent the message that the refugee crisis is a problem that concerns all 28 EU states, a European problem that should be addressed with common European policy and not to only or mostly burden Greece, Italy, Germany and Sweden.

In their talks in front of the cameras before their meeting at Maximos mansion in Athens, Tsipras noted that Europe is at a crucial point and that "we have to deal with three crises, the ongoing economic crisis, the refugee crisis and the security crisis."

"The most difficult part is that a conservative attitude currently prevails in Europe as well as the increase of the extreme right forces that make things even more difficult, so we are talking about a political fight," he said.

Tsipras expressed the concern that if we continue without any initiatives, we may face difficult conditions. He also added that Europe will not exist with fences between the countries and that we must understand that the problem is not only the refugees inflow but the fact that every day we have many people drown in the Aegean Sea and this is a humanitarian problem.

On her part, Boldrini underlined that all European should be proud of the way the Greek people are encountering the refugees issue but, as she said, we are a family of 28 countries and we are supposed to share responsibilities.
