Tsipras meeting with colleagues aiming at closing evaluation

The Prime Minister will have the first meetings with close associates at Maximos Mansion after a short Easter break, tomorrow morning in order to complete negotiations for the first assessment, given the critical Eurogroup of 9 May.

According to government sources, the government will seek in the coming days to strengthen the negotiating position of the country and increase the support that has been forthcoming from various European governments towards IMF demands for legislation in advance of specific measures.

The Prime Minister with a statement on Holy Thursday expressed his optimism for closure of the evaluation, while he noted, speaking to his colleagues that "those who dream of repeating the 2015 are in deep darkness." The prime minister also stressed that this time, the position of the country is in Europe and "alliances in favor of the Greek position are stronger than ever."

Government sources note the strong support that has been expressed by the European socialists to the Greek government, which is expected to enhance the participation of the Greek Prime Minister and President of SYRIZA in the meeting of the socialist party to be held in late May in Rome.

Speaking to Euractiv site, the head of the Eurogroup of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament Gianni Piteli stressed that "the International Monetary Fund and the Germans want to see Greece sinking, but the Socialists intend to stop them."

"This situation is the repetition of a movie witnessed a year ago, with the same actors. On the one hand the IMF, on the other Germans sharks, like Wolfgang Schäuble, who attempt to use twisted means to overthrow a democratically elected government and a nation that has made enormous efforts, both in the financial sector and towards the refugee crisis, "said Piteli when asked about the role and strategy of the International Monetary Fund and the "systematic attacks" against the Greek government.
