Road accident claims three lives on Crete

Three people (two women in one car and a man in the other) died after a car head-on collision, on the road from Heraklion to Mires.
The accident occurred close to Athanati village on Thursday morning.
Firemen managed to get the dead bodies out of the cars wrecks.
They were pronounced dead on the spot and their bodies were taken to the coroners mortuary in Heraklion Hospital.
The local Police Dept. conducts a preliminary investigation for the exact causes of the accident.
The accident comes in the wake of a spate of fatal road accidents in Greece that have seen a recent rise in road fatalities.
