Smoking Ban Is Back
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Just a few weeks before the holiday season, the relative departments of the Health Ministry, will be running checks on restaurants, nightclubs and cafeterias. The long forgotten EU directive for banning smoking, that is in effect since 2011, has been re-introduced.
Heavy fines will be charged to all un-lawful smokers and restaurant owners.
According to the EU directive, smoking areas must have the necessary signs as well as a license from the Health Ministry.
Fines can range from 50 to 500 euros per smoker while for shop owners, fines of even 10000 euros as well as the closure of shops are foreseen.
