Homeporting picks up at Piraeus, cruise passengers welcomed with shows

The Greek port of Piraeus has seen its homeporting cruise traffic rise by 14 percent in the first half of the year thanks in large part to major cruise companies like Celestyal Cruises, Azamara Club Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises, Cunard Line, Costa Cruises and Seabourn Cruise Line using the port as a turnaround point.

Now, the 336-meter “Carnival Vista” of Carnival Cruise Lines with a passenger capacity of 5,300 is set to boost port traffic even more, bringing an additional 50,000 visitors to Piraeus in 2016.

The Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) said they would be moving ahead with speedy infrastructure works in order to meet the growing demand including the completion of a 7,500m2 indoor reception area to cater to the needs of more than 10,000 passengers per arrival/departure.

On a different note, OLP has also entered a collaboration with the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus and local dance troupes which will welcome incoming cruise passengers with theater shows and performances.

Some 5,000 “Carnival Vista” travelers already got a taste of Greek hospitality this week with plenty of theater and dance while they also had a chance to sample Greek delicacies including graviera and feta cheeses, Cretan rusks, Greek olives and raki upon arrival to the Greek port.
