43rd anniversary of Polytechnic uprising to peak with a march to US Embassy

The 43rd anniversary of the 1973 Polytechnic uprising will peak on Thursday with a march to the US Embassy, at 3 pm.

The university has remained open over the last two days so that citizens can pay their respects to the victims of November 17 uprising. Education Minister Kostas Gavroglou and the President of the Parliament Nikos Voutsis laid a wreath on Wednesday.
On his part, the vice president of the union of prisoners and exiled rebellions (SFEA), Spyros Chavatzis, said: "Forty-three years later, the main slogan 'Bread-Education-Freedom' still applies. They have a special meaning in the conditions created by the economic crisis."
Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos said: "It is a day of remembrance and of multiple lessons ... It is a day that teaches us, in perpetuity, that the defense of democracy is a daily duty, especially in today's tough times for people and their rights, not only for our country, since they have taken pan-European and global dimensions."
