Lefteris Petrounias was crowned the European Champion in the Rings competition for the third straight year, after winning gold at the European Championships in Romania.
Eleftherios Petrounias put on another impressive and dominating display, blowing away the opposition in this year’s European Championships in Artistic Gymnastics. The Greek athlete scored 15,433 points to win his third consecutive gold medal at the European Championships. The 26-year old athlete become only the second person in the competition’s history to win three straight gold medals in the Rings event.
Petrounias has now gone unbeaten for over a year having won gold at every competition he has competed in since April 2016. His last defeat came at the Rio Pre-Olympic tournament where he fell to the Brazilian Arthur Zanetti. Of course at the Olympic Games, Petrounias defeated the hometown hero to win Olympic Gold in Brazil last summer.
Greece also had another representative in today’s Rings final, with Konstantinos Konstantinidis finishing in sixth place with 14,666 points.
