PPC, energy ministry preparing list of power unit and mines for sale
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Power utility PPC and the ministry of environment and energy are preparing a list of production units and mines that will be put on sale as part of Greece's agreement with its lenders and a European Court ruling for the abolition of PPC's monopoly in lignite production, sources said.
The aim is to prepare the list in July and then plan a market test to determine whether there is interest in the units.
On the other hand, the collapse of PPC's mine in Amyntaio and the unavoidable effects this will have on the lignite deposits complicates the sale of 40 percent of its lignite units. The question that remains to be answered is whether the remaining deposit justifies the investment to improve the units' environmental impact and / or the possible construction of a third unit in Amyntaio, which has been discussed in the past.
