Cosco to construct new floating dock in Piraeus

China Cosco Shipping Corporation Limited has announced new moves that are expected to change the shipbuilding sector in Perama, Piraeus.
According to an announcement of the Piraeus Port Authority, Cosco is planning the construction of a new floating dock - 240 m long, 35 m inboard, 22,000 tons lifting capacity and full crane equipment - for ships with a capacity of 80,000 tons that will be ready in November 2017.
Shipping officials explained that the ships will no longer need to carry out repair and maintenance operations in other Mediterranean shipyards, while this move is also expected to open new jobs in the Greek market.
Cosco, however, has announced that an additional 300,000 tonne panamax floating tank will be in place in 2018 depending on market needs.
The management of Piraeus Port Authority underlined that the extensive overhaul of "Piraeus I" floating pond in Perama has been completed and that all four existing tanks in the port of Piraeus are in full operation -- two floating and two stationary ones.
