Major wildfire near tourist resort on Corfu

A major wildfire broke out in the region of Dafnila in central Corfu on Tuesday afternoon and has approached very near to hotels and rented rooms in the summer resort.
A strong fire fighting force is on the scene, striving to put out the flames, with air support from four PZL and one Canadair fire-fighting aircraft and help from municipal water tankers.
According to the Ionian Islands Fire Brigade commander Efthymis Georgakopoulos, fire fighters are making every effort to contain the blaze, while local residents and firemen are using bulldozers to create a firebreak and contain the blaze.
