Increased air traffic in 9 months - Boom for Paros and Naxos

Air traffic increased by 9.4%, compared to the same period last year, according to the Greek Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

 

According to data from the CAA, 48.2 million passengers were serviced at all airports in the country, 4.1 million more than in the corresponding period of 2016.

The total number of flights to Greek airports amounted to 393,885 (of which 151,613 domestic and 242,272 foreign), showing an increase of 1,5% (+ 4,5% in foreign flights), compared to the corresponding period of 2016 where 388,182 flights.

As far as September is concerned, 7.9 million passengers traveled to and from Greek airports, showing an increase of 9.8%, compared to the same month of the previous year (+ 6.1% domestic passengers and + 10.9% foreign passengers).

In particular, according to the data released by all passengers in September at the five major airports in the country, it is as follows:

The largest passenger traffic for September 2017 was recorded at the airports of Athens, Heraklion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Corfu.

According to the CAA, the airports of Paros, Naxos and Sitia recorded the highest percentage increase in passengers in the 9 months of 2017.

In particular, based on data for January-September 2017, the airport with the highest passenger traffic growth rate was that of Paros with an increase of 140.7% (142.816 passengers transported in the 9 months of 2017 compared to 59.334 in the corresponding period of 2016).

Naxos airport recorded a 43.4% passenger traffic increase, while passenger traffic at Sitia Airport increased by 41.6%.
