Benaki Museum sets out catwalk for Gaultier

A globally unique and historic event is being held tonight, Tuesday 28 November, at the Benaki Museum. The event is a tribute to the work of leading fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier with the revenues benefitting the museum.

A well-known fan of the Benaki Museum, the famous French fashion designer wanted to dedicate for the purposes of the museum all the revenue from the fashion show, which is inspired by Greece, by persons such as Aphrodite and Sappho, fustanellas, traditional costumes and other typical items of Greekness embedded in his work.

The event which is being held Tuesday in the main building on Koumbari Street, will include a dinner on the ground floor of the Museum and will be attended by 200 people with an entry of 1,000 euros.

The legendary French designer chose the Benaki Museum to retrospectively present his creations with references to Greece and its culture, asking for the event to be charitable with the aim of financially supporting the Foundation.

The Museum responded directly to Jean Paul Gaultier's generous offer and opened its doors for the first time for such an event in honor of the avant-garde designer.
