A "warm" incident occurred at 10:28 pm on Monday on the island of Ro when a Turkish helicopter, probably belonging to the coastguard, made a low flight at a height of 100-200 meters.
However, the Greek garrison, who were in complete readiness, responded to the Turkish challenge by firing in the air.
According to information, the grarrison response was immediate. The soldiers fired tracer shells in the air from a medium 7.62mm machine gun, in order to scare off the helicopter. Indeed, the message sent by Greek soldiers to the crew of the Turkish helicopter was clear, but there was no danger of it being downed.
Prior to the warning fire, the garrison commander on Ro informed his superiors, as he owed, and after getting the "green light" fired warning shots in the opposite direction. Indeed, the helicopter movement, which approached on an east to west course, was also recorded by Air Force radar.
The Hellenic Ministry of National Defense confirmed the incident near Ro. Indeed, sources from the ministry reported that the helicopter did not overfly the island of Ró, but was flying low in the vicinity of the island. However, the rapid and dynamic reaction of the men of the Greek garrison put an end to the incident. In any case, the episode is hot, while an extraordinary meeting was called at the Ministry.
