Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall round off trip with visit to Crete

Prince Charles and Camilla will continue their three dayvisit too Greece with a trip to Crete. The couple will be accompanied by 7 British television networks.

The princely couple will visit the archaeological site in Knossos this morning, where they will be welcomed by the general secretary of the Ministry of Culture Mrs. Vlazaki and then the Prince of Wales will meet with members of the British School at the premises of Villa Ariadne.

At 14:25 he will visit Heraklion Development Company, where they will be informed about their actions. Camilla will follow a separate program that includes Lyarakis Winery, a tour of Villa Ariade and the facilities of the British Archaeological School.

At 15:15 the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall  will visit a community of refugees (Old Community School).

The visit to Crete of the prince of Wales and the duchess of Cornwall will be completed with a trip to Archanes (Market Square, Church Square) to attend local cultural events

At 16:20, they are expected to depart from Heraklion Airport "Nikos Kazantzakis" with a special flight.

The gifts the prince will receive

A basket full of items that refer to the cultural tradition of Crete with reminders of all those who have made the island famous to the ends of the world will be given to Prince Charles.

According to cretapost.gr, under the care of Mayor Archanes Asterousios Manolis Kokosalis and various local authorities, commemorative gifts have been prepared for the Prince of Wales.

Among the gifts prominent is a copy of the clay sistrum (rattle) of Archanes dating back to 2000 BC. considered the oldest musical instrument in Europe.

Also, the Prince will receive a basket of characteristic Cretan products such as olive oil, wine, raisins, raki and herbs. Also a traditional Cretan knife with a mantinada carved on its blade, as well as a multitude of different books about Crete and its culture will accompany the gift baskets.

At the Panayia Square, in Arhanes, a local buffet will be set up in honor of Prince Charles.

There, the prince will have the opportunity to meet the villagers and tour the cafes (he has requested it), and then watch the feast with the dancing.

In fact, there will be Cretans men and women, dressed in local garb along the road where Prince Charles and the Duchess Camilla will pass.

In the Panagia Square there will be stalls with traditional Cretan dishes, which will be offered to the princely couple. At the same time, traditional dance groups will present a program in their honor.

Finally, the Princess will visit the Vineyard located in Archanes where she will be informed about the native wine varieties of Crete.
