- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Thessaloniki became the scene of an unprecedented deluge, when a huge amount of rainfall fell in a matter of hours, the streets turned into rushing streams, basements and ground floors flooded, people wer swept by the rushing waters, in fear for their lives.
The municipality of Thessaloniki has once again failed to cope with the severe weather phenomena.
The amount of the rain was high, as according to the Athens Observatory Station, 72.4 millimeters of rain fell only in one hour, while the temperature dropped dramatically from 23 to 13 degrees Celsius.
However, the disaster, beyond all else, left Thessaloniki without water and electricity!
According to Thessaloniki Water Authority EYATH, cut-offs in the water supply will continue until this afternoon in the center of Thessaloniki, which is supplied by the Dendropotamos pumping station.
The interruption will take place to ensure that through necessary health controls, the water is of the right quality and is absolutely safe for consumption.
