New poll: New Democracy reaching self sufficiency
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Major Greek opposition party New Democracy (ND) is on the verge of gaining an absolute majority, according to the latest poll conducted by pollsters Marc and published in Sunday’s “PROTO THEMA” newspaper.
The findings indicate that the conservative ND holds a 10.9% lead over the leftist ruling party of SYRIZA with 29.9% of those polled saying they would vote for the main opposition party, compared to 19% who said they would support SYRIZA.
The data is particularly interesting given the fact that the respondents were polled immediately after Greece’s official exit from the bailout programme and the government’s effort to capitalise on the news, while the issues of the deal with FYROM and the aftermath of the devastating fires at Mati are also included. The majority of those polled said they believed ND would win the next general elections. The findings show that the next Parliament will have six parties.
