Jilted woman marries self on Santorini

She had a purpose in life: To wed on Santorini. And she did, even if the groom abandoned her.

The 38-year-old French woman Letitia Nguyen dreamed even as a child of getting married against a sunset with the volcano of Santorini in the background.

And while her plans seemed to be going well, all of a sudden, shortly before it happened, she broke up.

Her fiancé last February decided to split and cancel their wedding they had planned for May in Santorini.

However, nothing has stopped the 38-year-old. Since the preparations were in progress, she did not stop. She continued to prepare her wedding on the Greek island.

And no, she did not look for a new groom. She just decided to marry herself.

"I'm still hurt and it will always hurt me, but life is a gift and I have to be happy," says Letizia, economic director by profession, adding: "You can not just quit one day, so I needed to turn it into something pleasant. It was a 'normal marriage, just without a groom'.

"It's embarrassing to break up and it's even worse when it's a little before your wedding. This ceremony gave me back my self-esteem, and I swore to myself, it's like I was born again," she adds.

After the wedding, Letitia stayed for two weeks in Santorini for her... honeymoon and had a great time even without a partner: "No man wanted to marry me, but I wanted to marry me because I am amazing and the I know, I'm not ashamed. "
