Kammenos' allegations that led to Kotzias resignation

PM Tsipras never imagined that the cabinet meeting would be turned into a battlefield between the defense minister and Nikos Kotzias, on account of secret ministry funds.

Nikos Kotzias has long been thought to hold Panos Kammenos responsible for a series of press reports that George Soros, in order to advance the Prespa Agreement, finances politicians, businessmen and journalists and has recently accessed the Foreign Ministry.

Panos Kammenos, in recent days,  has opened a feud with the pro-government "Efimerida ton Syntakton", suggesting in an interview that the newspaper is being funded by George Soros to cast blame on him and praise the Prespa Agreement.

The newspaper strongly condemned both accusations, which Panos Kammenos sprang indirectly against him and had a photo front page titled "The Persistent Mud Slinger" and subtitled "Relentless and shameless, he continues the war against independent information".

Nikos Kotzias, without informing the Prime Minister, decided to answer Panos Kammenos, in the cabinet meeting. Speaking on the floor, he accused Mr Kammenos for his Plan B for FYROM, saying he was dangerous for the government and the country, and said there should be control of all ministries that manage secret funds.

He also said that he has set up a committee since 2016 that controls the secret funds of the Foreign Ministry and called on Panos Kammenos, the ministry of which also has secret funds, to do the same.

The defense minister's explosion was so intense that attendees were stunned watching the shouting match between the two ministers for at least 10 minutes. According to information, among other things, the ANEL president accused Nikos Kotzias of proceeding with the Prespa Agreement, after receiving 50 million euros from George Soros, of being involved in visa-related circuits and of a mismanagement of secrets funds of the Foreign Ministry.

Information published today by Efimerida ton Syntakton said that the phrase that literally led Nikos Kotzias to fury was when Alexis Tsipras told all the ministers: "You see what I'm going through with Kammenos and Kotzias. They're trouble! "

At that moment, Mr Kotzias felt that the Prime Minister had debased a political dispute into a personal dispute and that Panos Kammenos, as a government partner essential to the government majority, had at least the tolerance of the Prime Minister.
