Greek FM: We will never accept the fait accompli of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Greece will continue to contribute "firmly and responsibly to the restoration of international legitimacy in Cyprus, which can only be achieved through the end of the occupation, the abolition of the anachronistic status of the guarantees and the reunification of Cyprus, on the basis of the UN Security Council Decisions," the Foreign Ministry stressed in a statement announcing the completion of 35 years of the unlawful and unilateral declaration of the "independence" of the pseudo-state.
As the ministry notes, "this sad anniversary of the international community reminds everyone of the flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter as a consequence of the illegal Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the occupation of part of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and its colonization."
The Foreign Ministry urges Turkey to comply with Security Council resolutions requiring the revocation of the illegitimate establishment of the pseudo-state in the occupied part of Cyprus, but also to work towards a just, viable and comprehensive solution to the Cyprus question, the fundamental human rights of the people of the Republic of Cyprus as well as all the rights and freedoms resulting from the participation of Cyprus in the European Union.
"Greece, on the side of the Republic of Cyprus, will never accept the fait accompli of the Turkish invasion and occupation," the Foreign Ministry's announcement concludes.
