Kammenos: A vision to create an axis with Egypt in the eastern Mediterranean

The visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al Sisi, soon to Athens, was one of the issues that National Defense Minister Panos Kammenos focused on in an exclusive interview with AMNA.

The Minister referred to his meeting with Egyptian leader Al Sisi on the sidelines of the Egyptian Defense Expo "EDEX 2018", speaking of the two countries' common vision of creating an axis of stability in the South East Mediterranean, given that the Presidentof Egypt is one of the protagonists of building this cooperation with Greece.

The Minister of National Defense also made special reference to the very important agreements that have already been closed by two Greek private companies, as "one company supplies the Egyptian army with night vision goggles. And the other company has won the bid for border protection with Libya. This leads to a further strengthening of relations in defense cooperation in industry ".

At the same time, Mr. Kammenos welcomed Egypt's increasingly leading role  in the Arab world, which is "very important for Greece, which has a common economic zone with Egypt".

"In the future," he said, "I believe we can build defense agreements together with energy agreements that will help deepen these relations and which will ensure stability in the region", stressing that "in a collapsing environment, the two countries now take on their historical role, together, working closely together to build the tomorrow of the wider region. "

Finally, the Minister of National Defense praised the role of Egyptian Hellenism in strengthening relations between Greece and Egypt.
