Terrorist bomb strike against SKAI - Kathimerini

Police in their first assessments of the bombing of the building housing the SKAI media group  in Neo Faliro speak of a "premeditated blow" by terrorists, using potentially military, or enhanced explosive. Officers call it "serious" terrorist strike.

Both the first findings of the mechanism and the movements of the terrorists show that the perpetrators had experience, both in the construction and in the placement of explosive devices.

The explosion was very strong, causing extensive damage to the station. Terrorists used, according to the police's first estimates, more than five kilograms of explosive material in a metal or plastic canister. The explosion caused significant damage to the windows, up to the 6th floor of the building, as well as damage to the walls inside.

The perpetrators were two, they came from Ethnarchou Makariou Avenue and left the bomb in a railing beside the boulevard within a bag and they probably left by car. Cameras have that were recording with the material they have collected. They had attached the bomb backpack to the railing, perhaps with a motorcycle padlock.

Everything indicates that they had scouted the area for days, their movements were careful, putting the explosive mechanism in such a way that the blast wave was directed towards SKAI. The explosion occurred at about 2.37 am and was extremely strong, and the terrorists achieved the "perfect explosion," as there was little left of the mechanism. The method of the "hit" points to the terrorist organization "People's Fighters" (OLA). OLA has committed at least two bombings in the same pattern, one at the Union of Industries (SEV) and the other at the Athens Court of Appeals.

Nearly an hour earlier, at 1.50 am, persons unknown had called ANT1 and the Zougla website (1.52) warning about the bomb, repeating three times that it was not a hoax. The perpetrators used a disposable cell phone that was destroyed afterwards.

The same building houses the Kathimerini newspaper. For safety reasons there was a direct evacuation of the building, while at the same time the surrounding area was blocked by strong police forces. The strong explosion caused extensive damage, not only ton the SKAI building, but also in the surrounding area. scaring residents.

"Democracy and pluralism are not silenced," said ND President, Kyriakos Mitsotakis,  who condemned the terrorist attack on SKAI visiting the channel to support the employees of the station and Kathimerini.

Citizen Protection Minister Olga Gerovassilis and ELAS chief Lieutenant General Aristides Andrikopoulos also visited the premises of SKAI.
