The accusations of judges towards the government about institutional diversion, in connection with Pavlos Polakis' social media posts was the subject of a report by Associated Press carried in the New York Times.
The reaction of the Union of Judges and Prosecutors came yesterday, after Pavlos Polakis' rants, which referred to major cases and named judges.
"Top Greek judges accuse the government of trying to intervene in a major investigation before this year's election, in which corruption scandals are likely to emerge as a campaign issue.
Several senior politicians, such as conservative former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and current Governor of the Bank of Greece, Yiannis Stournaras, are under investigation in a bribery scandal involving the Swiss pharma colossus Novartis.
In a social media post, deputy health minister Pavlos Polakis accused prosecutors of slow-pedaling the probe, and named key judicial officials involved in the case.
"The powerful Association of Greek Judges and Prosecutors on Thursday criticized Polakis for "attempting to intervene in the work of the judiciary," and undermining the separation of powers," the New York Times recalled that the Tsipras government faces a triple electoral campaign.
