Refugees found floating off Thrace
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Twenty-nine refugees were transported to the port of Alexandroupolis with the help of a Coast Guard vessel, after being found adrift in a dinghy in the sea area between Alexandroupolis and Samothraki.
The location of the refugees occurred when one of them asked for help using the European 112 distress number using a mobile phone.
It is obvious that refugees, among them, Turks trying to avoid persecution by the Erdogan regime also use the coasts of eastern Thrace to "pass" to Greece. This allows them to avoid crossing the Evros river, which is unpredictable in from Winter to mid-Spring.
