Mushrooms on the menu at two-day festival held in Zagori district, Ioannina
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Getting acquainted with a rich selection of wild mushrooms that grow in the forests of Ioannina, northwestern Greece, and cultivating a taste and love of mushrooms was the aim of a two-day festival held in the region's Zagori district.
Centred around the quaint village of Ano Pedina in the mountainous Zagori district, the festival held on June 7-8 featured excursions for mushroom-picking in the wilds, talks and workshops centred on mushrooms and the environment, with advice from experts on how to identify and collect wild mushrooms in the woods.
The event also features activities for children and an opportunity to enjoy gastronomic creation based on mushrooms, including black truffle pasta and mushroom soup, and music.
Visitors were also able to come away with the Epirus Mushroom-Lovers Association Ten-point Guide on mushroom safety and protection of nature.
