Greek hotel chain opens up in Erbil

A Greek owned hotel chain is expanding to northern Iraq through its most recent addition Civitel Erbil, planned to open this Spring.

The Greek owned Civitel Hotels & Resort chain is planning to operate the hotel in Erbil, in Kurdistan, northern Iraq, as soon as works are completed this Spring. The hotel will be a luxury unit with 123 rooms, in what is one of the most rapidly growing cities in the Middle East.

Dating back to at least 6000BC the ancient city of Erbil, the capital of northern Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
Kurdistan’s wealth of natural resources, booming economy and highly attractive investment laws are drawing an ever-growing stream of international businesses and investors. Since attaining semi-autonomy in 1991, Kurdistan has become an oasis of peace and stability in a historically volatile region.
With its ancient citadel, breathtaking landscapes and bustling bazaars married with chic cafes, state of the art shopping malls, stylish eateries and a burgeoning night life, Erbil has a lot to offer the discerning visitor. Erbil
is a fast-growing, dynamic city, widely projected to become the Dubai of the north.

Civitel Hotels & Resorts represent four properties – two in Athens and two in Crete – that offer the very best of Greek hospitality combined with international standards. The name Civitel comes from joining the words Civic and Hotel, reflecting the company's civic values and honoring Greek civilization.

From Crete, birthplace of the Minoans and Europe's first advanced society to Athens, where the greatest Greek philosophers shaped the world as we know it, Civitel has built four vibrant hotels and resorts surrounded by a myriad of experiences. Honoring the past yet living dynamically in the present, Civitel aims to show its guests, business partners and friends the finest of Greece in a world-class environment. The group's four properties are known for their warm hospitality and sophisticated balance between business and leisure.

The history of the Civitel Hotels & Resorts began over 40 years ago, when the first property opened its gates on one of the most splendid beaches outside Heraklion, Crete. These four decades of experience in the industry have enabled Civitel to perfect its hospitality standards and create a unique identity based on the company's drive to promote the best of Greek civilization, extending civility to guests and fostering civic pride.

Today, while all properties offer superb opportunities for tourism and adventure, their conference and business facilities bring the best of both worlds together. Each property is very unique in its offerings, yet all extend a warm welcome, high international standards and the enchanting experiences of their locale.
