Kalymnos: Arrests for illegal possession of antiquities

Two Greek nationals, aged 42 and 73, were arrested in Kalymnos for illegal possession of antiquities.

Specifically, as part of targeted actions by the South Aegean Regional Police Directorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and following an evaluation of the evidence, a search was carried out at the defendants' residence where, in the presence of a judicial officer, two clay pots, amphorae, were found and seized; a vase with two handles from prehistoric times, ancient clay pot with two handles, insulated closed ancient vase, a Byzantine amphora, almost intact and a clay jug, almost intact.
The confiscated items fall under the protective provisions of Law 3028/02 and are kept in order to be submitted to the competent services of the Ministry of Culture for further evaluation.
The case file against the detainees will be submitted to the Prosecutor of Kos. About a month ago another case of antiquity was reported on the island, three people were arrested for illegally possessing a large number of ancient marine mobile monuments.
