Featured Southeast Europe's largest fertility unit launched in Thessaloniki's Interbalkan Medical Center

The Interbalkan Medical Center of Thessaloniki has launched a new Fertility & In Vitro Fertilization Unit (FIVI), the largest FIVI unit in southeastern Europe and the only one in Greece installed within a general hospital that covers the full spectrum of health services.

The new FIVI unit was inaugurated by Central Macedonia Regional Governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Attica Regional Governor and President of the Athens Medical Association Giorgos Patoulis, as well as the Athens Medical Group President Georgios Apostolopoulos and CEO Vasileios Apostolopoulos.

Boasting an investment of more than 1.5 million euros, which brought in the most up-to-date medical equipment, the new unit includes one of the most pioneering laboratories in Europe, compliant to the cleanroom classification standard ISO Class 7, and is using electronic monitoring of medical samples via its RI Witness system, alongside its embryological cultures, as FIVI's laboratory is certified by Swiss Approval under the EN15224 certification standard.

To help set up this new unit, the 35-year experience of internationally acclaimed FIVI specialist Ronny Janssens (Chief Embryologist at the Center for Reproductive Medicine, AZ-VUB, and IVF consultant at BE-ART IVF), contributed greatly to the quality management and risk assessment concerning the creation of this unit.

The FIVI unit is staffed with another twenty doctors and embryology specialists whose experience has so far surpassed 35,000 successful IVF cycles.

The Athens Medical Group established the Interbalkan Medical Center of Thessaloniki twenty years ago, thus rendering Thessaloniki a reference point in health services throughout southeastern Europe and also putting Greece on the map of medical tourism.
