Thessaloniki celebrates Chinese New Year for Year of the Rat

A most "Happy Chinese New Year" is coming for the second consecutive year to Thessaloniki.
A large group of Chinese artists, organized by the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization, are preparing a big celebration in the city.
According to New Year's tradition, the Chinese wear new clothes to symbolize the new beginning and the hopes of the new year. Their lucky color is red, which indicates optimism and a festive mood.
During the festivities held in the ornate city, there are dances by dragons and lions, which are believed to be a way of praying for good fortune and for removing evil spirits.
So, with traditional music and dancing by the famous dragons, Thessaloniki will celebrate Chinese New Year - The Year of the Rat this year through a unique show, inspired by the art of Chinese culture.
One of the biggest Chinese bands, the Chongqing Liangjiang Art Troupe, is coming to Thessaloniki, at the Royal Theater, for a unique night on Monday, January 6th at 8pm.
Chinese artists are coming to Greece for the fourth time as envoys of the city of Beijing. The "Happy Chinese New Year" is a prime example of the cultural interaction between the two countries in the field of exchanges between peoples and their cultures. Chinese acrobats, jugglers, ballets, Beijing operas will take us into the depths of Asia through a storm of colors.
The event is under the auspices of the Beijing Municipality and the Chinese Embassy in Athens.
Admission will be free for the public with a voucher provided by Viva.gr and Royal Theater outlets.
