An alarm went off on Monday night at Greek police headquarters after the execution in cold blood of a 38-year-old man on Thermopylae Street in the suburb of Ilioupolis.
The officers of the Homicide Department are trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together in order to shed light on the murder case, behind which, according to the first information, there is a settling of scores. At the same time, after the murder, the authorities are trying to find out if the cold-blooded murder of the 38-year-old in Ilioupolis is a continuation of a cycle of bloody incidents involving people of the underworld.
At the moment police are scrutinizing people who were close to the 38-year-old in order to form a circle of suspects from whom the investigations about the execution will begin.
Cold execution in Ilioupoli - An ambush targeting the 38-year-old
According to secure information, the perpetrators (two in number) seem to have set an ambush on the 38-year-old. As soon as they saw him, they shot him with dozens of bullets and within a few seconds, they disappeared in an unknown direction. It is noted that the victim had been under scrutiny by the police authorities in 2015 as his underworld contacts were known.
At the same time, the experienced homicid officers are looking for eyewitnesses and material from the security cameras in order to be able to gather more information about the murder, as well as the escape route followed by the two perpetrators.
According to police sources, the victim belonged to the group of a 50-year-old businessman who last July was attacked by gunmen in an outdoor parking lot outside a bakery in the area of Vari. The victim of yesterday's attack and the 50-year-old are said to have had disputes with the group of a 56-year-old who was murdered in Vrilissia in early December.
