Defense Minister speaks at Harvard

The future of Europe is the subject of a speech to be given by defense minister Dimitris Avramopoulos organized by the Harvard Law School and the Fletcher School.

Specifically the Greek defense minister will be speaking on “The role of Europe in security issues in the 21st century,” a subject also being approached by former NATO chief and dean of the Fletcher school ret. Admiral James Stavridis. The two speeches will close off the two-day conference.

Being a joint-initiative of the European Student Clubs at Harvard University and the Fletcher School, the European Conference at Harvard aims to provide a forum to discuss Europe with the business, economic and political leaders of today and tomorrow. The 2014 theme is "Re-Generation", and the goal is to discuss solutions and visions for renewing Europe.

The Conference is also a wonderful opportunity to connect with the vibrant Harvard intellectual community. In addition to the public address during the Conference, there will be numerous opportunities for our guests to engage in private discussions and events with speakers, professors and students.

Speakers include Joaquín Almunia (VP European Commission, EU Commissioner Competition), Erkki Liikanen (Governor of the Central Bank of Finland), James G. Stavridis (Dean of the Fletcher School, Former Supreme Allied Commander Europe), Vesna Pusić (Croatian Deputy Prime Minister), Jan Muehlfeit (Chairman, Microsoft Europe), Androulla Vassiliou (EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth), Dimitris Avramopoulos (Greek Minister of National Defense) and several other prominent speakers.
