Museum and archaeological sites extnded hours

The culture ministry will launch the new museum and archaeological site extended opening hours with a series of musical events in 15 regions and 17 archaeological sites in Greece.

 

The extended timetable takes effect today (1 April) for 33 sites and museums around the country.

The program of events includes concerts and shows at the Propylea at the Athens Acropolis, the courtyard of the Byzantine museum, the atrium of the Thessaloniki Archeological Museum, the Delphi Archeological Museum, the atrium of Ancient Olympia, the entrance of the Mistras archeological site, At Palamidi castle, at Delos, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Rhodes, Kerkyra, Santorini, Irakleio, and Lasithi, symbolizing the new beginning.

Culture minister Panos Panayotopoulos lauded the new beginning, in a press conference, on Monday, but said he couldn't promise things would go without starting Tuesday, but they would smooth out soon.

The 33 museums and archeological sites garner 95% of the visitors visiting such venues , as well as getting 95% of proceeds, during the period between April and 31 October, the peak tourist season.

As had been announced those holding unemployment cards will be able to visit the sites and museums free of charge.

◊  the archaeological site of Akrotiri Thera on Santorini;

◊  the archaeological site of Lindos on Rhodes;

◊  the archaeological site of Asklepieio on Kos;

◊  Ancient Kamiros on Rhodes;

◊  the archaeological museum of Rhodes;

◊  the archaeological site of  Knossos on Crete;

◊  the archaeological site of  Phaistos on Crete;

◊  Cave of Psychro on Crete;

◊  the archaeological site of Ancient Corinth;
