Golden Dawn's Mihaloliakos to stay in jail
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
It's already been six months that Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos has been in jail awaiting trial and today, the Board of Appeals ruled that he should remain in custody for another six months.
Michaloliakos, along with almost all of the party's MPs are accused of being members of a “criminal organization”. Five of them are also held in custody along with their leader, while prosecutors have been asking for the lifting of parliamentary immunity of the rest.
The Board of Appeals ruled based on the case prosecutors recomendation for the continuation of Michaloliakos' custody, given that the reasons for his temporary imprisonment have not eclipsed. The ruling says that if released, the MP is liable to commit new crimes.
Michaloliakos' indictment is quite heavy. It mentions that being a member of the organization's leading circle, he “directed the members of the organization through orders, directives and commands, fully controlling its illegal actions”.
Michaloliakos is the last GD MP whose custody has been extended by the Board. A few days ago, the custody of MPs Yiannis Lagos and Christos Pappas was also extended.
