Souda Bay is of strategic significance for the United States, as US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt pointed out today, while welcoming the Prespa Agreement, stressing that it creates opportunities for stability and progress in the wider Balkan region.

The U.S Presidential aircraft, Air Force One, landed at the military base of Souda Bay in Crete on Sunday at 3.07 am for a brief stop to refuel. President Trump is on his way to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un in the Singapore Summit on Tuesday for talks about the latter’s nuclear programme.

The American Hellenic Institute and the Lexington Institute will host a presentation on Capitol Hill to rollout the new whitepaper, Souda Bay: NATO’S Military Gem, on Monday 21 March.
