The Tatiana Ligari-directed theatrical performance of the play “Women of Passion, Women of Greece”, featured previously at the Railway Carriage Theater “The Train at Rouf” wraps up this year’s winter season with an Australian tour on the heels of a successful cycle of performances.
Jenny Arseni’s English-speaking play, watched by the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos, foreign ambassadors and dignitaries, audiences of various nationalities, as well as by collectives and women’s associations operating in Greece, Greek expats, Greek and international students, will be performed on April 21 in Adelaide, on April 23 in Sydney’s Greek Festival, and on April 27 in Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory, home to the Aboriginals.
Three mythical female figures, Medea, Maria Callas and Melina Mercouri lead us into a life journey starting at Ancient Greece and terminating at present-day Greece. Ancient Greek drama’s tragic heroine meets modern Greece’s two high priestesses, their different paths converging at their common trait, passion –a passion for life, love, creativity, and liberty. The Greek spirit’s history, culture, and power, the struggle for democracy, all come to life through the performance of one actor and a musician, joining us in an engaging, creative trip into memory, humor and emotion, with Greece simultaneously acting as is the starting point and final destination at the ends of stations calling on universal feelings.
Actress Evelina Arapidis and musician Fotis Milonas perform.
