Greeks of the week: The faithful of Holy Cross Church feed and clothe the homeless
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Once a month, since March 2008, a group of volunteers gathers at the Holy Cross Church in Brooklyn to prepare packages of food and deliver them to people in New York City who are living on the street.
Volunteers meet at 8:00 p.m. (usually on the 3rd Friday of each month) at the Holy Cross Church Hall or at the Outreach Center and put together 100 – 150 packages of food which consists of a sandwich, a bottle of water, a bag of chips, homemade cookies and fruit. Many times extra items are donated and distributed such as toiletries and clothing. Once all packages are loaded in the cars, the group hand delivers the packages of food to people who are living on the street.
This past week was no exception. While it was sad to see so many homeless New Yorkers sleeping outside freezing temperatures, it was awesome to see how many people showed up At the Holy Cross Church in Broooklyn and even came with Church members and clergy to help distribute food, toiletries, clothing, and blankets. Remember the less fortunate. Thank You!
