For days, the Greek leader has been working the phones, trying to secure the best possible terms for his country as it enters the last mile of its seemingly endless cycle of bailouts. So far, his efforts have won him more mockery than respect — especially in Germany.

Opposition Potami party leader Stavros Theodorakis is making a good recovery following scheduled surgery to remove a tumour at the Metropolitan Hospital Urological Clinic, led by surgeon Vasilis Poulakis. Doctors said the surgery went well and that Theodorakis is expected to stay in hospital for two to three days, returning to his normal activities in roughly two weeks.

Greek police are stepping up security measures in Thessaloniki with increased policing patrols and traffic regulations, ahead of the trilateral summit meeting between Greece, Cyprus and Israel which will he held on Thursday.
