U.S. president, Barack Obama, sternly warned the Republican representatives in Congress to stop blockading his efforts to raise the debt limit, stressing that by not doing so, it could lead the American economy into a long recession.
Obama expressed how he didn't think it was fair to be asked to pay ransom, in order for America to conceal its responsibility. He imputed blame on the Republicans in Congress for being responsible for the political and economic standstill, a situation that he feels can endanger the global economy as well.
"Let's rid our operations and families of these threats and let's get back to work," Obama urges.
At the press conference that followed, Obama once again stressed dramatically how the failure to raise the debt limit will serious repercussions, trickling even to government services.
Despite Obama's telephone communications with House Speaker, Republican Representative, John Bohener, there are still no signs of either side backing off.
