G8 Plans to Dismember Russia
In a statement issued by the White House yesterday, it was revealed that President Barack Obama and other global premiers will abolish Russia's role in the G8.
This resulted in Russia's current annexation of Crimea. The statement offered by Washington explained: "International law prohibits the acquisition of part or all of another state's territory through coercion or force".
Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's response was: "G8 is an informal organization that does not give out any membership cards and, by its definition, cannot remove anyone...All the economic and financial questions are decided in G20, and G8 has the purpose of existence as the forum of dialogue between the leading Western countries and Russia". Russia was added to the G8 in 1998.
U.S. Republican and Democratic lawmakers are enhancing their efforts to offer Ukraine military assistance and light arms. Administration agents believe that placed sanctions need time to adapt. The question remains if Obama's soft power method will deter the approximated 20,000 Russian troops posted at the Ukrainian border.
