ATHEX Plans To Reopen Next Week

ATHEX plans to reopen this Monday, after being closed for five weeks.

The Greek stock exchange is currently waiting for a Finance Ministry mandate, that will cover the new trading regulations, according to a securities regulator's chairman that spoke to Reuters.

ATHEX temporarily ceased operations back on June 29th, when the Hellenic government closed its banks and placed heavy limitations on banking transactions and transfers.

Hellenic Capital Market Commission Chairmen Konstantinos Botopoulos commented, "We're working on the basis of Monday but we're waiting for the minister's decision, which is the legal prerequisite for the reopening."

Local Greek banks have experienced various technical difficulties, resulting in added obstacles. Yet traders stated today that they held a positive outlook, that the Greek stock exchange would be operational by next week.
