IBM Plans Athenian Data & Business Analytics Center

Yesterday, IBM disclosed its plan to create a Big Data and Business Analytics Centre of Competence in Athens.

The goal of the Center is to enhance its capacity to offer consulting and technical services in the area, by taking advantage of highly-skilled local Greek IT experts.

The international firm offered a press release regarding the new business venture, "...will help companies to better leverage analytics and cognitive computing capabilities, improving business operations and enhancing their competitiveness in the global marketplace".

The Athenian Big Data and Business Analytics Centre of Competence will direct large business and data analytics in the territory, and will collaborate intimately with IBM's Centers in Zurich, Washington, D.C., Tokyo, New York, London, Dallas, Beijing and Berlin. IBM Greece & Cyprus General Manager
Spyros Poulidas commented, "We believe that big data, business analytics and cognitive computing have a crucial role to play as enablers and as a source of competitive advantage for the Greek economy".

Alpha Bank Executive General Manager for IT and Operations Efstathios Kakogiannis added, "By partnering with IBM and leveraging IBM's strong business analytics capabilities in Greece, Alpha Bank is gaining better insight into the areas in which the Bank operates, from retail banking to financial reporting, risk assessment, compliance and governance".

IBM also has Greek plans to partner with Athens University of Economics and Business and offer workshops, lectures and case studies relevant to its mission. The leading IT company will also participate with the University of Piraeus on MBA programs, by developing and creating hands-on useful seminars in the Business Analytics and Business Intelligence sectors.
