Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas alluded to the prospect of tighter controls on the curfew in an interview with SKAI radio on Tuesday morning.

The burst of migratory flows in the Aegean with boats crowded sailing off from the Turkish coast and landing on the Greek islands has led the government to take measures to better monitor maritime space in the Aegean in order to prevent the arrival of refugees and migrants.

German government spokesperson Steffen Seibert on Wednesday repeated the German government's "complete confidence" in the actions taken by the Greek government on migration. He said the "key" to improving the situation on the Greek islands was to implement the returns to Turkey envisaged under the EU-Turkey Joint Statement.
