U.S. Ambassador to Greece Pearce Hosts Art Exhibit
U.S. Ambassador to Greece David D. Pearce and Mrs. Leyla Baroody Pearce held a reception that showcased their artwork, amassed by the Art in Embassies program.
Ambassador Pearce chose art that portrayed the appealing landscape and coastal region of his home state of Maine, to be viewed in Athens. High level dignitaries, artists and art enthusiasts attended the event. The State Department founded the art program in 1963 and allows Ambassadors to exhibit fine pieces of American and international art in their homes, that are on loan from galleries, museums and collectors.
Secretary of State John Kerry has described, "For fifty years, Art in Embassies has played an active diplomatic role by creating meaningful cultural exchange through the visual arts. The exhibitions, permanent collections and artist exchanges connect people from the farthest corners of an international community," according to the U.S. State Department.
