Ted Sarandos Receives Humanitarian Award
Greek-American Netflix Executive Ted Sarandos was honored this week with The Simon Wiesenthal Center's highest award.
Sarandos was the proud recipient of the Humanitarian Award, due to his unparalleled support of the Center, along with his original content programming creation and innovative efforts at Netflix. Weisenthal Center founder and dean Rabbi Marvin Hier exclaimed to the attendees at the Beverly Wilshire: "We are delighted to honor one of the entertainment industry's great innovators, Ted Sarandos, and the three recipients of our Medal of Valor award who are traveling from all parts of the world to be with us".
Fox Filmed Entertainment CEO and Chairman Jim Gianopulos served as the evening's co-chairman and was last year's Humanitarian Award winner. The audience was made up of Hollywood's most powerful Democratic fundraisers. Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg stated, "This is the second year in a row that Jews are honoring a Greek!". The Beverly Hills gala generated over $1.6 million dollars on Tuesday evening for the Center and its Museum of Tolerance. Sarandos is a strong advocate of both entities.
Sarandos has been termed a "Greek Titan" by Time Magazine, who placed him on their list of "100 Most Influential People in the World", that includes entrepreneurs, athletes, artists and innovators. An acclaimed movie industry guru, 2014 marks his fourteenth year as the leader in content acquisition for Netflix. He also serves as Consultant of the Digital Entertainment Group and is a member of the Los Angeles Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival boards.
